Ministerial Order establishing a List of Protected Trees

Ministerial Order 8 of 2015

The Minister of Natural Resources;Pursuant to the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 04 June 2003 as amended to date, especially in Articles 120, 121 and 201;Pursuant to Law nº 47bis/2013 of 28/06/2013 determining the management and utilization of forests in Rwanda, especially in Article 27;After consideration and approval by the Cabinet, in its session of 13/02/2015;HEREBY ORDERS:

Article One – Purpose of this Order

This Order establishes a list of protected trees in a State, District or a private forest and isolated species of trees.

Article 2 – List of protected trees

The list of protected trees shall be composed of trees that should not be cleared due to one (1) of the following reasons:being a disappearing tree species;being trees that are rarely found in a few parts of the world, endemic trees of Albertine rift and rare trees endemic of Rwanda.being a medicinal tree;being trees used in the development activities and which takes above twenty (20) years to reach the harvesting maturity;being cultural related trees;being a tree protected at the international level;any other reason that may be determined.The list of protected trees is annexed to this Order.

Article 3 – Repealing provision

All prior provisions contrary to this Order are hereby repealed.

Article 4 – Commencement

This Order shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Rwanda.
